The Final Call of the Lord

by Albert Ghilardi

T
here are many callings in the life of the believer. Thank God for the first call that came to us. It was His goodness and mercy that led us to repentance. We were saved by His grace and not by our works.

The final call of the Lord will take place at His second coming, whether we respond by the way of the grave, or are alive at His coming. Our reward, or loss of reward, will be based on how many times we responded to all the callings in our life in obedience to Him. At the final call our reward will not be based on many works but based on how much of His character He has worked into our lives through His many dealings.

In His Word there are many nations, churches and groups of people to whom He gives the final call. We want to discuss a few of the final callings of the Lord. Exodus 19:4-6 states that the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt so they could fulfill a spiritual destiny by becoming a kingdom of priests. In Exodus 32:19-29, the final call to Israel to become God’s priesthood was the test of Mt. Sinai. While Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, Israel, encamped at the foot of the mountain, was committing apostasy in dancing and worshiping before a golden calf. Moses asked, “who is on the Lord’s side?” and only the tribe of Levi responded to God’s command to bring judgment. The Lord wanted a nation of priests, but had to settle for one tribe. That single tribe resulted in a priesthood that would draw closer to the Lord in His ministry.

Matthew 25:3-10 indicates there was a (final) call at the midnight hour given to the whole church, that the day of preparation was over and the time for the wedding supper had come. Only those that had trimmed their lamps of self life and had their lamps full of oil (which represents the fullness of the Spirit) could enter in. The door was shut on the foolish virgins. (Mt. 25:38-42) The wise virgins were to become the eternal bride of Christ. (Rev. 19:7)

The last days of this earth will be like the days of Noah. The final call will be given through the preaching of repentance and the threat of impending judgment. The Lord will shut the door of the ark and many will perish at that time. In Revelation 3:14-19 we see the Lord coming to the Laodicean church (as that in America and Europe) for the final time. They have worshiped spiritual and material blessing more than fellowshipping with His suffering and acknowledging their own spiritual poverty. This church will very soon receive God’s final judgment. “Be zealous and repent,” He says. (Rev. 3:19)

Even though many nations and peoples have rejected His final call, Rev. 5:1-8 shows the Lion of Judah has prevailed to break the seven seals of the book. The Lamb of God heard the call, and the seven spirits have been released to accomplish His purpose in the earth. The Lamb of God’s obedience will result in a redeemed people that will arise in the earth with a new song. This people will not just sing the song, but will become the song. (Revelation 22:14-17)

Many lost in sin and apostasy will be left outside the city of God. God’s true bride will hear the final call and will respond causing many to enter His kingdom. The Lord’s Holy remnant will hear the final call, and the wedding feast will be furnished with guests. Praise His name!
